It’s Synthpop Baby!
Essy, born Rachel Braig, taught herself to play piano and began writing her own songs at eleven years old. Her gifted ear for melody and hooks secured her acceptance into NYU’s Steinhardt summer program at age 15 where she cut her teeth writing and learning from industry veterans Barry Eastmond (Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston) and Maia Sharpe (Carole King, The Dixie Chicks).
While studying Psychology at the University of Virginia, Essy pursued songwriting and top-lining for EDM artists on the side. Fate interceded when a piano ballad she composed caught the attention of electronic duo Ship Wrek. Essy's first cut with NCS Records' Star Party soon followed.
Following an early graduation, Essy moved to Nashville to write alongside pop’s promising penners Johnluke Lewis (LANY, Don Diablo), Jintae Ko (OneRepublic), Daniel Agee (Jessie James Decker), Paris Carney (Adam Lambert), Brandon Paddock (Boys Like Girls, Avril Lavigne), Mitchy Collins (Lovely The Band), Mike Pappas (Meghan Trainor), and Hunter Hayes.
Her recent cut “If You Change Your Mind” was recorded as a single by Grammy nominated artists Hunter Hayes and was featured on the Ellen DeGeneres and Zane Lowe Apple Music Show. In 2021, her song “Stardust” was selected as a top 50 song in the American Songwriting Song Contest.
In 2022, Berlin-based audio company, Adam Audio, featured Essy in an exclusive video promotion for her production and songwriting. She additionally secured artist sponsorship with synthesizer company, Roland, and rocks their keytar in all her live sets.
Blending her love for 80s pop with her own production, Essy began writing and producing her own artist project in 2019. Her second EP “Cry For Me” received nods from Rolling Stone and Earmilk, calling her “one of the freshest voices in the US.” She is currently working alongside collaborates Brandon Paddock (Boys Like Girls, Betty Who) and Chad (Avril Lavigne, Colony House, LANY) on her debut LP, set to release in early 2025.
